There was considerable discussion about the assessment of student learning in the collaborative development of the Educational Technology and E-Learning Module. The Sheffield University team were experienced in designing e-learning courses in which there was considerable self and peer assessment, and we wanted to explore the possibility of introducing this into the new Sino-UK Module. Colleagues at Beijing Normal University were extremely interested in this, although they had no direct experience of incorporating it into their courses. In order to aid our discussions on assessment, we jointly drafted a learner guide template, that included a specification for an e-portfolio and the use of case studies.

Although the final pilot presentation of the Module did not allow us to fully implement self-peer-tutor assessment, we did incorporate some aspects of collaborative assessment into some of the Module Units.
