We collaborated with Beijing Normal University School of Networked Education to achieve the following objectives:

• to develop inter-cultural understanding of e-learning in the UK and China through collaboration;
• to foster collaboration and inter-cultural understanding of e-learning through joint development of an e-learning course.

Negotiations led to an agreement with Beijing Normal University School of Networked Education that we would jointly develop an online Masters module course in e-learning and Educational Technology for Chinese Middle School Teachers. This gave us a concrete context in which to work together and where inter-cultural discussions on pedagogy and practice led to joint decision-making on materials development.
